First Name Basis

What’s that? Food truck veteran Amanda Click, who graduated from the College of Charleston in 2009, wanted to emulate the experience of coming together around a campfire, except without the fixed location. So she arranged to have a wood-fired oven affixed to a teardrop trailer, which she now uses to produce pizzas with local ingredients in various places.

Who recommends it? Lindsey Barrow of Lowcountry Street Grocery

Why? Barrow was loquacious in expressing his love for Click’s pies: He likes the char on the crust, the local vegetables atop the cheese and the “very fair price” she charges for her handiwork. But he’s most impressed by her taking "a few days out of each month to feed hungry folks far less fortunate than her typical crowd.”

“You can often find her caravaning with us, slinging healthier pies to hungry folks,” Barrow says, adding that Click finds inventive ways to use what his mobile grocery sells. “She does this pro bono, and shares recipes and ideas for cooking.”

Where is it? In addition to catering gigs, First Name Basis makes frequent appearances at local breweries. But its schedule varies with those aforementioned gigs and special events: For the latest on the oven’s whereabouts, visit facebook.com/firstnamebasisco.
