What’s that? Owners Rob Laudicina and RJ Moody have changed the menu at their restaurant countless times since opening in 2015, but their fundamental philosophy has never shifted.

“Great food at an affordable and fair price point,” Laudicina says when asked to elaborate on what they strive to offer guests.

Currently, that food includes a Scotch egg with Sichuan peppercorn sausage; new potatoes alla puttanesca; a lamb barbacoa sandwich; and a boneless short rib over Charleston Gold middlins. “You can still share,” the entrée section’s headnote reads. “Once again folks, this is a judgment-free zone.”

Who recommends it? Hank Weed, owner of Chico Feo

Why? Weed respects the food at Spero, but he’s especially smitten with the restaurant’s casual ambiance, and the fun-loving attitude that informs it. “They keep things lighthearted, and almost frivolous,” Weed says. “It’s a good contrast to the whole Charleston dining scene.”

Where is it? Located at 616 Meeting St., Suite A, Spero is open from Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. For more information, visit sperocharleston.com, or call 843-203-3255.
