Once again, Charleston is well represented in potential contenders for the annual James Beard Foundation Awards, one of the nation’s highest culinary honors.
Chef Sean Brock of McCrady’s and Husk is among 20 colleagues across the country up for Outstanding Chef. Brock was named the foundation’s Best Chef Southeast in 2010 before the opening of Husk later that year.
Semifinalists for 2012 Best Chef Southeast, which has been won by a Charleston chef in three of the past four years, include Jeremiah Bacon of The Macintosh, Craig Deihl of Cypress and Ken Vedrinski of Trattoria Lucca. Both Deihl and Vedrinski have been nominated in the past.
The Macintosh also is a semifinalist for Best New Restaurant.
The foundation revealed its 2012 semifinalists in 20 categories from 57,000 online entries, a record. On March 19, the foundation will announce a list of five finalists in each category, determined by more than 550 culinary professionals nationwide. The winners will be announced May 7 during a gala in New York City.
