A 58-year-old man wanted for a bank robbery in downtown Charleston surrendered to U.S. Marshals Thursday afternoon.

Clyde Spillers, 58, of 5439 Marie St. in North Charleston, is charged with entering a bank or loan institution with the intent to steal, Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis said. Spillers is being held at the Charleston County jail and is scheduled for a bond hearing Friday.

About 10:45 a.m. Sept. 20, a man entered the First Citizens Bank at 317 Meeting St. and handed the teller a note demanding money. A surveillance photo resulted in several leads that eventually pressured Spillers to turn himself in at the federal courthouse, Deputy U.S. Marshal Frank Conroy said.

The investigation is ongoing.
