Charleston firefighters are battling a fire at a building on King Street.
Fire crews were called to 1107 King St. shortly after 4 p.m. They arrived to find flames and smoke pouring from the building, fire department spokesman Mark Ruppel said. They quickly contained the blaze and are now searching for hot spots, he said.
The fire appears to have started on the second floor and spread into a third-floor attic, Ruppel said. No one was in the building at the time, he said.
The first floor is vacant business space, and the second floor has residences, Ruppel said. He had no immediate word on the extent of damage, and investigators are still searching for a cause.
St. Andrews and North Charleston firefighters are assisting.
