MARION, S.C. — Fire has destroyed three buildings in downtown Marion.

There were no immediate reports of injuries in the blaze that started shortly before 4 a.m. Friday on the town’s Main Street.

Firefighters from Florence and Horry counties joined those from Marion County in fighting the fire.

Mayor Rodney Berry says a restaurant, antique store and a vacant building were destroyed. Berry says two other businesses suffered smoke and water damage.

The mayor says the work by firefighters prevented further damage.

Police Chief Jim Gray says his department and the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating the cause of the fire.
