Deputies have arrested a fifth suspect in the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old near Summerville last month, they announced Wednesday.

Christopher John Haynes, 23, of Summerville was taken into custody Tuesday on charges of murder and armed robbery. He is expected to appear for a bond hearing today.

Four other people were arrested last month in connection with the shooting of William Michael Cummings Jr. of Moncks Corner on Dec. 19 at the Azalea Park Apartments on Orangeburg Road.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office said two female teenagers had set up a deal to buy marijuana from Cummings and 17-year-old Anthony Lee Pierce. As the teens met with the two, someone emerged from a wooded area and began firing around 7:30 p.m.

The four others said to be involved:

• Dana Andrew Butler Jr., 19, of Ridgeville, who deputies said was a shooter, was arrested on charges of armed robbery and murder.

• Pierce faces a charge of intent to distribute marijuana and criminal conspiracy.

• Enphaine Michelle Swarez, 17, of Summerville faces a count of criminal conspiracy.

• Ramara Lashay Stroman, 19, of Summerville, faces the same charge of criminal conspiracy.

“This investigation continues, and additional arrests and charges may be made before the conclusion of this investigation,” sheriff’s Capt. James Nettles said in a statement.
