NEW YORK — “Pitch Perfect” is coming back for an encore: A third installment of the musical franchise will hit theaters in July 2017.

Universal Pictures announced the plans for “Pitch Perfect 3” on Monday. Stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will return for the sequel.

“Pitch Perfect” is about a college all-girls a cappella singing group. It has grown into a powerful box-office force. The 2012 original made $115 million worldwide. “Pitch Perfect 2” has taken in $272 million globally since opening last month.

LONDON — John Hurt says he has been diagnosed with cancer but has no plans to stop working and is “more than optimistic” about his future.

The 75-year-old actor said last week that he was recently diagnosed with early stage pancreatic cancer. He says he is undergoing treatment and is “more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team.”

Hurt’s major roles include gay-rights advocate Quentin Crisp in “The Naked Civil Servant,” an unfortunate astronaut in “Alien” and John Merrick in “The Elephant Man,” for which he was Oscar-nominated. He played wand maker Mr. Ollivander in the “Harry Potter” movies.
