This week, author Mary Alice Monroe will team up with Audubon South Carolina to promote her forthcoming novel and to raise resources for the conservationist organization.

Local author Mary Alice Monroe will join Audubon South Carolina members at Charles Towne Landing 6-9 p.m. Monday for an evening of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction, presentations from Audubon South Carolina and signed copies of Monroe's new novel "Beach House for Rent."

Monroe will be the guest of honor at Blue Bicycle Books Author's Luncheon, 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at High Cotton, 199 East Bay St.

She will speak about "Beach House for Rent," to be released on June 20, and about Audubon South Carolina. Tickets are $32-$57 and include a three-course lunch and the option to receive a signed copy of the novel. Additional $10 raffle tickets will benefit Audubon South Carolina.

Monroe also will appear at an Author Talk and Signing at 3:30 p.m Tuesday, to be hosted at the Sandcastle Community Center on Kiawah Island. She will participate in a benefit for Audubon South Carolina at 6 p.m. Saturday at Wild Dunes Resort on the Isle of Palms. And she will attend an Author Talk and Signing at 2 p.m. June 25 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1600 Old Trolley Road, Summerville.

"Beach House for Rent" is set on the Isle of Palms, where the author lives. Monroe said a bird study by the Audubon Society documenting a nearly 70 percent decline in shorebird populations was a major catalyst for her new novel. The book, a stand-alone novel, is the final installment of Monroe’s bestselling "Beach House" series, which began in 2002.
