Sunday celebration to raise funds for nonprofit

  • Updated

MAIA, a nonprofit organization helping single mothers and their families, is sponsoring a Mother’s Day Celebration on Sunday.

Organizers say the event is designed to be fun and economical.

The fundraiser will include fashion, photography, arts and crafts, sweets and more. The money raised will help single mothers get job training and meet other needs.

“There are great gifts for Mom from More Than a Label, a fashion boutique offering upscale consignment clothes, jewelry and accessories with nothing over $10,” says Trudy Mercy Brown, chairwoman.

Fashion picks by Charleston Magazine style director Ayoka Lucas also will be modeled. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on Lucas’ selected trend pieces.

Raffle prizes will include pieces from the children’s clothing line by neve / hawk (www.neveandhawk.com), an emerging designer seen at Charleston Fashion Week.

In addition, the event will feature local handmade glass art, jewelry, paintings and photography; a crafts area for kids to make Mother’s Day gifts; family portraits made; pastries and teas served; and live music by local students.
