Calvary Lutheran Church in West Ashley is launching a new outreach ministry for the blind.
The church was contacted four months ago by the Rev. Dave Andrus, a blind Lutheran pastor and head of Lutheran Blind Missions, who spoke of the need for such a ministry, according to Calvary’s pastor, the Rev. Ed Grant.
“After subsequent meetings, we have concluded God is calling us to this ministry,” Grant wrote in an email. “The excitement and support for this ministry in the blind community has been overwhelming.”
On Thursday, Calvary held its first planning meeting, which included members of the blind community.
“The purpose of the meeting is to plan a sensitivity training session for those who will serve in this ministry,” Grant wrote.
The church will continue to develop its new ministry in the coming months.
