An interfaith gathering Thursday will bring together local residents and leaders from a variety of religious traditions to discuss the role of women in their faiths.

The event will be held at the Hindu Temple of Greater Charleston, 1740 Jervey Ave. in West Ashley. It is free and open to the public.

Followers of various faith traditions will be on hand to discuss their beliefs, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism, Hinduism and more.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with social time followed by greetings from temple President Dr. Shashi Pai, professor and chief of pediatric genetics at MUSC. That will be followed by the panel, time for questions and answers, and an interfaith prayer.

The panel will be moderated by June McDaniel, religious studies professor at the College of Charleston.

The event coincides with South Carolina’s Interfaith Harmony Month, which is celebrated in January.
