Johna Bilton was elected to her first term on the Moncks Corner Town Council, defeating Laura Perdue.

Bilton received 195 votes to Perdue's 180 in Tuesday's runoff election. Bilton has been a member of the town's planning commission for the past three years.

A downtown business owner, she's encouraged by efforts to improve the downtown area.

She told The Post and Courier she wants to help the town keep its small-town feel while encouraging orderly growth.

Perdue was seeking her second term.

"If I had to lose, Johna's a worthy opponent to lose to," she said Tuesday. "I think she'll do a good job."

In Charleston, Dean C. Riegel beat Ginger Rosenberg 352 votes to 308 to fill the West Ashley District 10 City Council seat vacated by retiring Councilman Larry Shirley.
