Your “hat” photos were great, now go catch a wave

From: Anna Glac of Charleston - Taken on James Island by her husband Matthew Glac. The hat is by Ellen Christine Couture.

There’s no finer season than the days around Easter and the Kentucky Derby to be thinking about hats. We asked you last week to send us your hat pictures and we got plenty of submissions.

There were a number of entries we wished had been composed a little differently to emphasize the hats a bit more. Ultimately, it was simple composition, soft light and a derby-worthy hat that drew us to the photo by Matthew Glac of James Island of his wife Anna wearing a fashionable hat in a striking pose.

Pick up a copy of Sunday’s Arts & Culture section to find out more about why Matthew’s photo impressed the editors.

Next assignment: Catching a wave in the Lowcountry. And yes we are talking about water. We want to see what surfers, swimmers, boaters and beachgoers see when they are up close and personal with waves in the Lowcountry.

The rules:

- Send just one (1) photograph to by noon on Thursday, April 30. Include your name, town and where the photo was taken. If you send us multiple photos we will select one randomly.

- We will allow photographs with reasonable watermarks to run in the gallery but for the winning photo that runs in the newspaper we must have a photo that does not have a watermark. If you want to send us one with the watermark (to run online) and one without (to possibly run in the newspaper) please feel free.
