The Carolina Film Alliance (CFA) will host an informational meeting 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at Crowne Plaza hotel, 4831 Tanger Outlet Blvd., North Charleston. The purpose of the meeting is to address two state provisos that could adversely affect the funds provided by the 2013 S.C. Motion Picture Incentive Act.
One proviso prevents leftover funds from rolling over from one fiscal year to the next; another adds digital animation film production to the list of qualifying film projects. Critics say these provisos diminish the available pool of resources and create a disincentive that can result in loss of business for the state.
Duane Parrish, director of the S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, which oversees the state film commission, will attend the event and offer information and suggestions. Legislators and other public officials have been invited.
The gathering is organized by Amy Heath, director of tourism for The City of North Charleston. Mayor Keith Summey is scheduled to attend.
A cash bar will be available; complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served. CFA memberships will be accepted at the gathering.
