Two upcoming arts festivals are inviting visual artists to submit works for exhibition and juried competitions.
Participants in the North Charleston Arts Festival Judged Fine Art Competition & Exhibition compete for cash prizes totaling up to $4,675.
Artists involved in the city of Charleston’s Piccolo Spoleto Juried Art Exhibition compete for small cash prizes and a best-in-show award of $500.
The 2015 North Charleston Arts Festival is May 1-9 and offers exhibition opportunities for fine artists and photographers ages 18 and up. The festival includes the annual North Charleston Arts Festival Art Walk and Judged Fine Art and Photography Competitions & Exhibitions. The Art Walk, set for May 6 in the Olde Village area, provides a casual setting for artists to display and sell their work.
Entries for the judged competitions, eligible for ribbons and cash prizes, will be on display throughout the festival at the Charleston Area Convention Center Complex, 5001 Coliseum Drive.
The deadline for Art Walk submissions is April 20. Applications may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, mailed to the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department at P.O. Box 190016, North Charleston, SC 29419, or hand-delivered to the Cultural Arts office on the 2nd floor of North Charleston City Hall, 2500 City Hall Lane.
Fine artists are invited to enter original work in five categories: acrylic, oil, drawing/pastel, watercolor and mixed media.
This year, awards will be at the sole discretion of the judge, Wim Roefs, an independent curator, author, art consultant, exhibition designer and owner of The if ART Gallery in Columbia. Roefs is the chairman of the board of Columbia’s 701 Center for Contemporary Art.
Fine art entries will be accepted at the Charleston Area Convention Center noon-7 p.m. April 29 and 30, and 9 a.m.-noon May 1. Artists may enter a maximum of four works. A nonrefundable fee of $10 per entry is due at drop-off.

All accepted entries are subject to a juried competition that awards small cash prizes for best photography, best printmaking, best sculpture, best painting and best drawing. A best-in-show award, worth $500, also will be named.
This year’s juror is artist Tyrone Geter. The 2015 exhibition will be May 22-June 7 at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park, with an art delivery date of May 14.
Submitted work must have been completed within the past two years. Work recently exhibited at city-related events, exhibited at the 2015 ArtFields or entered into the 2015 North Charleston Judged Art Exhibition will not be considered. Craftwork or jewelry is ineligible.
2-D fine artwork in all media is acceptable: traditional oil, watercolor, acrylics, etchings and pastels, as well as fiber art, collage and all types of fine art photography (from prints to digitally or manually altered images).
All artwork must be framed or have a finished edge wrap and be gallery-ready for hanging. For more requirements and guidelines, email or call Anne Quattlebaum at email@example.com or 843-958-6484.
