The North Charleston Cultural Arts Department hosts a free evening concert by the Air Force Heritage of America Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Sterett Hall Auditorium on the former Charleston Naval Base.
The concert will feature 12 professional airmen-musicians from Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Va., who have earned acclaim and military distinction. The band’s repertoire includes jazz and fusion, big band swing and contemporary music.
Paying homage to the great big bands of yesteryear, Rhythm in Blue also highlights the work of modern bands such as the Mingus Big Band, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra and John Fedchock New York Big Band.
Activated in 1941, The United States Air Force Heritage of America Band and its various breakout groups travel throughout the mid-Atlantic region, presenting more than 300 events annually.
