MARQUETTE, Kan. — A beagle from South Carolina that eluded capture at a Kansas lake since November gave in to the temptation of a pork chop, and is now with a new family.

The dog, who’s been named Buddy, ran wild at Kanopolis Lake since he was separated from his owner while hunting. Lake residents tried unsuccessfully to capture him.

Yancy Trostle of Salina says he worried about the dog surviving the winter. So last Friday, he set up a trap that used a pork chop to lure Buddy into a cage.

The Salina Journal reports (http://bit.ly/vXcfUw) that the dog had a serious infection around his neck and several cuts and scars. But his owner in South Carolina agreed to let the Trostles keep him, so Buddy’s running days are over.
