MOUNT PLEASANT — Firefighters rescued at least one dog from a burning house this morning in the Park West subdivision.

The fire was reported about 9:20 a.m. on Parsonage Woods Lane in Mount Pleasant.

Dave Creaturo, who lives in Park West, said he was walking his dog in the neighborhood when he smelled the smoke first. He came up on the house and saw flames coming from the top and rear of the house.

He saw a neighbor frantically trying to get inside, he said.

"The neighbor ran up to the house and tried to get in because they knew the animals were inside and no one was home," Creaturo said.

Creaturo said two neighboring houses were damaged by the heat. "The heat just kind of crippled their siding," he said.

Firefighters found one dog and gave it oxygen at the scene. The status of the second dog was not immediately known.
