CHARLESTON — A group of 35 cyclists is repairing the roof of a home in Charleston before making a cross-country trek.
The group called Bike & Build is working with Charleston Habitat for Humanity on Wednesday to re-roof the house of a woman who lives in the West Ashley section of the city. The cyclists later will start a cross-country journey from Charleston, spending 85 days biking to the West Coast.
The cyclists will stop 17 times during journey and build homes with organizations like Habitat for Humanity.
Nationwide, Habitat built more than 6,000 homes last year, making it one of the largest home builders in America.
