SPARTANBURG — Crews in Spartanburg are trying to clean up an overturned tanker truck carrying an acid solution.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control and local hazardous materials units were on the scene Wednesday morning of the overturned truck that was carrying a sodium hydroxide solution.

Public safety officers say the tanker overturned at around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday. The driver was stuck in the cab but got out with the help of a fire crew.

Officials say some diesel fuel is leaking from the truck but the acid solution will likely be pumped to another truck before the tanker is moved.

Sodium hydroxide solution is used to make toothpaste.
