LAURENS — Laurens County deputies say a man has been charged with murder after an autopsy determined his sister died last month from injuries she suffered when he stabbed her about two weeks earlier during an argument as they planned their father’s funeral.
Investigators upgraded the charge against Bobby Avery on Thursday.
Authorities say Avery cut his sister’s throat and slashed her face as they argued on Aug. 9, a day after their father died from cancer. Another family member shot Avery in the chest, but he has recovered.
Sally Mae Avery had surgery and was released from the hospital, but the coroner says she died Aug. 25 from blood clots in her legs caused by the stab wounds.
It wasn’t clear if Bobby Avery has an attorney.
