Continuance granted in drug smuggling case

Rashad Muhammad

A federal court judge granted a continuance in the drug smuggling case of former entertainment promoter Rashad Muhammad.

With jury selection set to begin Wednesday, Muhammad's attorney asked for resolution in two brothers' related cases before moving forward.

Gary and Damon Milford faced a jury with Muhammad last month, but that case ended in a mistrial.

Prosecutors in the marijuana smuggling case failed to share key evidence with defense attorneys until after the trial started, a misstep so grave that the judge abruptly ended the case and made an assistant U.S. Attorney apologize to jurors for wasting their time.
