To celebrate Black History Month, Wadmalaw Island’s community center will be renamed after Anderson Mack, the center’s director, Bertha Middleton, announced.

A Wadmalaw Island native, Mack was responsible for establishing the center’s current building and acquiring its 13 acres of land.

Mack will be honored at the community center Saturday at 4 p.m. In addition to his dedication to the community, he will be recognized for working on Charleston County’s roads for 36 years. A portrait of him will also be revealed.

The Wadmalaw Island Community Center is located at 5605 Katy Hill Road.
