The South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association recently named the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort as its course of the year.
The Ocean Course also was the Charleston Golf Course Owners Association course of the year while Andrea Thomas of Pine Forest Country Club was named the SCGOA’s employee of the year.
The Ocean Course, which hosted the 2012 PGA Championship, was cited for exceptional quality of the course, quality of the management, contribution to the community and contribution to the game. The Ocean Course also will be nominated for the national course of the year.
Thomas is administrative assistant and general office manager at Pine Forest.
Pat Parrington shot 72-74—146 and beat Patrick Mallard by a shot to win the Jenkins Links Club Championship played at Charleston Municipal Golf Course. Tony Morelli was third in the championship flight. Evan Rodwell, Chris Homer and Garris Killingsworth took the top three spots in the net division.
Bob Schweitzer won the senior division with John Van Patton finishing first in the net category. Terry Rickson was the ladies winner with Lindsay Livingston second.
Nick Avery of Berkeley Country Club shot 134 and won the first flight by 17 shots over James Jaco of Wrenwoods Golf Club.

Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant and Todd White of Spartanburg posted a 9-under-par 134 and won the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association-South Carolina Golf Association Mixed Team Championship played at Hampton Hall and Pine Crest in Bluffton. Sara Younger of Johns Island and Steve Agazzi of Charleston finished second with a score of 138. Teddy Stockwell and Charles Gibbs, both of Johns Island, finished second in the first flight of the senior division while Sandy Bland and Jay Bland of Summerville finished third.
Tommy Ford of Mount Pleasant shot 80-71—151 and won the Wilson Flight by three shots in the SCGA’s Super Senior Championship played at Florence Country Club. Bob Stringer of Blythe-wood won the championship flight with a score of 145.
Zak Butt of Summerville won the boys 11-14 age group with a two-round score of 141 in the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event played at Pebble Creek in Taylorsville.
Jarrett Swan tied for eighth with a 233 and Choo Teck Ng tied for 24th overall with a 242 as Charleston Southern’s men’s golf team finished sixth in the Western Kentucky University Kenny Perry Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky.
Legend Oaks Golf Club of Summerville recently presented checks for $18,617 to The Palmetto House and Summerville Meals on Wheels from the Legend Oaks Gives Back fundraiser.
