Pinewood Prep soccer standout Robert Beebe was named Gatorade's South Carolina boys soccer player of the year.
"It was unexpected," Beebe said. "But it is a huge honor to join a long list of great players. I owe a lot to the people who have helped me along the way -- my family, my coaches and teammates."
The 6-4 keeper was The Post and Courier's player of the year in 2010 and has signed to play at South Carolina. He recorded 12 shutouts for the Panthers (17-5-1).
Beebe will graduate as Pinewood's valedictorian, and he is active in the community.
Pinewood hosts Hammond today in a SCISA state semifinal.
"We have a core of seniors and some young guys," said Beebe. "It's been an up-and-down year, but we're going strong in the playoffs."
