A really bizarre story emerged from last week's Verizon Heritage played at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island. And I'm not talking about Brian Davis calling himself for a rules violation when he brushed a piece of dead marsh grass during his backswing while trying to play from the greenside hazard at 18 during a playoff with Jim Furyk.

The Beaufort Gazette published a story this week saying that Scott Medlin, a club professional from Hamlet, N.C., had been cited for "petit larceny after he was seen Friday afternoon at Harbour Town Golf Links 'removing property from the lockers of various professional golfers,' stuffing the items into his own golf bag and carrying them away from the locker room."

Medlin had missed the cut.

The Gazette's story said the victim was PGA Tour golfer Martin Laird, whose agent said the biggest thing was a pair of golf shoes valued at approximately $200, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office incident report.

Medlin, 43, is a three-time Carolinas Open champion. He is currently not affiliated with any Carolinas PGA facility. Medlin got into the Heritage through the event's sectional qualifying tournament held in March.
