Ford Motor Company has appointed the supervisor of the Charleston police cruiser fleet to serve as on its Police Advisory Board.

Scott Newsome, director police and city fleet operations for the past seven years, was appointed to a three-year term on the 24-member Ford board, which has representatives from across the nation and Canada.

Newsome said he was honored by the appointment, which 'will give me a platform to provide feedback, both positive and negative, to Ford management and engineering teams.

"It is an opportunity to represent not only the Charleston Police Department but all law enforcement agencies in the southeastern region," he said.

The mission of the Police Advisory Board is to help Ford Motor Company refine current products and develop future products that meet the unique and diverse needs of law enforcement agencies.

Police Chief Greg Mullen said Newsome's appointment "is a direct reflection of Scott's dedication and commitment to enhancing the ability of police officers to perform their duties in a safe and effective manner."
