COLUMBIA — One of the nation's fastest-growing bakery brands is adding a location in Forest Acres.

Crumbl Cookies is coming to the Cardinal Crossing development on Forest Drive, according to the city's social media.

The residential and retail project, on the former grounds of Cardinal Newman School, already hosts Bad Daddy's Burger Bar and Nothing Bundt Cakes, and soon will add Poogan's Southern Kitchen.

Now it is adding one of the fastest-growing brands in food.

Crumbl was started in Utah in 2017 and now has more than 500 locations nationwide, according to the company's website.

Its owners expect the bakery to have more than 600 locations nationwide by the end of 2022, according to a story in trade publication QSR.

That would make it into one of the nation's largest bakery brands.

It has nine shops already in South Carolina, including in the Target-anchored Lexington Pavilion shopping center on Sunset Boulevard.

The chain is known for its deluxe jumbo cookies, served in a pink box. It has become a popular food brand on social media, with 2.4 million Instagram followers.

It likely will take at least three months of work before the Forest Acres store can open, as it is outfitting a brand-new space for the bakery, said Rox Pollard, director of retail for Colliers South Carolina real estate.

The town already has a bevy of bakeries that indulge the sweet tooth, including Kudzu Bakery & Market and Ally & Eloise Bakeshop, both also on Forest Drive.
