The Citadel’s Board of Visitors will meet at 2 p.m. today to discuss a contractual matter, school officials stated in a news release. They also said the meeting will be held entirely behind closed doors and no vote or action is expected.

Under the state’s Freedom of Information Act, public bodies can only meet outside the public eye for a limited number of reasons, and they must state specifically why they are doing so. Stating that they will discuss “contractual matters” is not sufficient, according to the S.C. Press Association. They must elaborate on the type of contractual matter to be discussed.

School officials gave no indication on whether this meeting has any connection to a child sex-abuse scandal in which The Citadel is now embroiled.
