Windwood Family Services is hosting its largest fundraiser of the year, Pork & Pearls, on Daniel Island this weekend. The oyster roast and pig roast is an all-day, family-friendly affair with live music, a petting zoo, jump castles for kids and much more. Now in its sixth year, the event supports the nonprofit group home and psychiatric residential treatment facility for boys in Awendaw.
According to a Post and Courier project about group homes published last year, the nonprofit must raise nearly $500,000 annually to break even after payments from the state. Through donations and special events like Pork & Pearls, Windwood has been able to offer its services to children in the community for 30 years.
