The Gibbes’ Society 1858 Winter Party features Magical Mystery Tour theme

The Gibbes Museum of Art and its young professionals group, Society 1858, will host the Winter Party on Friday at Woolfe Street Playhouse.

The Gibbes Museum of Art and its young professionals group, Society 1858, are gearing up for their fourth annual Winter Party titled The Magical Mystery Tour. Inspired by The Beatles album and film of the same name, the 1960s/mod-themed party will play on the museum’s journey around the town during the renovation. Attendees will be able to enjoy music, dancing, cocktails, bites and the visual arts. This year’s event adds a silent auction featuring works by contemporary southern artists, including Robert Lange, John Westmark, Hirona Matsuda, Charles Ailstock, Ben Gately Williams, Lulie Wallace, Andrew Smock, Christopher Holt and Brian Coleman. All proceeds from the party will support the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art, a $10,000 cash prize awarded to an artist whose work contributes to a new understanding of art in the South.

When: 8-11 p.m. Friday

Where: Woolfe Street Playhouse, 34 Woolfe St.

Price: $70 for Society 1858 members, $95 for nonmembers
