Regional shag clubs flock to Edisto Island for competition during Edisto Music & Shag Fest

For those who know the South Carolina state dance, the Edisto Music & Shag Fest is one of the highlights of the summer.

The three-day festival at Bay Creek Park next to the Edisto Marina gets dance partners on their feet throughout the weekend with live entertainment by many local and regional acts such as DJ Jim Bowers, the Shag Doctorz and the Entertainers.

The highlight of the annual celebration is the shag competition, which draws participants from shag clubs around the Southeast. The event kicks off at noon Friday and continues through Sunday with music, arts and crafts and plenty of food vendors.

When: Noon Friday, 10 a.m. Saturday, Noon Sunday.

Price: $10 general admission, free for kids age 12 and younger
