While our primary job is to tell you about the fun things to do in town every weekend, we can all admit that sometimes, there’s nothing better than getting cozy on the couch and just being at home. But what if your home wasn’t a place where you could relax? What if it was a constant reminder of how you couldn’t afford to fix the leaky ceiling, or install that ramp for your elderly relative?
That’s the reality many across the Lowcountry live in every day. But with the help of Operation Home, hundreds of families have been able to make their houses feel like home again. The local organization raises funds to make repairs on homes for low-income families that might otherwise be displaced by problems they don’t have the money to fix.
This weekend, The Alley will host the Gimme Shelter party to benefit the organization with live music by New Breed Brass Band from New Orleans, a silent auction featuring a Scout boat and, of course, food and libations. So, if you’re a homebody, maybe consider a night on the town this weekend to raise money that could be used to make others in the community happy homebodies, too.
