One of the hottest tickets in town, the fourth annual Southeastern Beard & Moustache Championships makes its reappearance. Hosted by the Holy City Beard & Moustache Society, a group of men and women will be competing in categories that include sideburns, goatee, Donegal/Amish, moustache (styled and natural), junior full beard, college beard, full beard freestyle, partial beard freestyle, ladies artificial (creative and realistic), gray beard, full beard natural (less than 12 inches and more than 12 inches). There also will be two Best in Show Awards. With the main event Saturday night, other events include a pre-party Friday at Recovery Room Tavern, a lunch Saturday afternoon at Home Team BBQ in West Ashley and a brunch Sunday at Holy City Brewing. Lowcountry Women with Wings is the beneficiary of this event; the organization provides education and support services to women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, their caregivers and families.

Kicking off Spoleto Festival USA, a 17-day performing arts festival, is the Opening Night Fete immediately following the opening night of “Compagnie Kafig,” or another performance of your choice. The fourth annual fete kicks off the 2013 season of Spoleto, which features more than 150 performances of opera, dance, theater, classical music and jazz. Attendees will toast the opening of the festival with cocktails, supper, live music, a full bar and more. Guests are asked to wear festive cocktail attire.

For the first time, The Kinfolks Foundation will host the Soul Food Festival in Charleston. An event that travels throughout the county, the festival will feature traditional soul food and Grammy-award winning entertainment. With performances by George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Morris Day and the Time, The SOS Band, Lakeside, Howard Hewett and A'ngela Winbush, the music is a big draw in addition to the food. The purpose of the festival is to be an “information platform from which the public can come and retrieve life-changing knowledge as it relates to health and wellness, technology, family intervention, financial literacy, professional career building and workforce development.”

Share Our Suzy (“SOS”), a local nonprofit that raises money and resources to assist and support breast cancer patients from diagnosis to remission in honor of the late Suzy McGrane, will host its ninth annual memorial event. Featuring live music, refreshments and more, the party serves as a fundraiser for the program. The Moonshiners will open the show, with Columbia's Tootie and the Jones and Atlanta's The Law Band also performing. Food, beer and wine, and nonalcoholic beverages are included in the ticket price. A cash bar for cocktails will be set up on-site.

Lone Star Barbecue and Mercantile hosts its 11th annual Bluegrass and Country Music Hoe Down. The three-day event will feature a weekend full of music and family-oriented fun, which means no alcohol allowed. Weather permitting, performances will take place outside, so attendees should bring chairs and/or blankets. The Blue Iguanas Bluegrass Band will take the stage Friday, while Saturday's lineup includes The Lone Star Pickin' Parlor, Common Ground and Mandy Addy and the Diving Horses Country Band. The Ladies of the Picking Parlor, Claude Lucas Bluegrass, and Johnny Owens and the Rounders Country Band will perform Sunday.
