Magnolia Plantation to unleash 150,000 ladybugs

As far as insects go, ladybugs certainly rank among the cutest of the creatures. These speckled beauties also are a gardener’s friend, munching on aphids and other plant-devouring pests. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is looking for help to welcome more than 150,000 of these lovely bugs on Saturday.

The ladybug release will be heralded with a red Volkswagen Beetle. Children will set ladybugs free throughout the gardens. Prizes will be given for best ladybug costume in three categories by age. A face painter and nature displays also will be set up for the event. Carpooling and early arrival is recommended.

When: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday

Price: $15 adult general admission, $10 for children age 6 to 12, free for children ages 5 and younger
