Local bands pay tribute to rock greats on new concert cruise series

Rusty Cole leads the Grateful Dead tribute band The Reckoning every Wednesday on the Pour House deck. This weekend, the band takes its act to the sea aboard the Carolina Queen.

A new harbor cruise series sets sail this week with a concept sure to win over live music fans. Charleston Harbor Tours, Follywood Productions and Sweetwater Brewing Co. are introducing Jam on the Water Concert Cruise, a monthly boat cruise aboard the Carolina Queen held through October that will take tours around the Charleston Harbor while local bands pay tribute to rock ‘n’ roll greats.

Each cruise also will showcase creations by art vendors and offer food from one local food truck or restaurant.

The first installment Friday will include live music by The Reckoning, a Charleston-based Grateful Dead tribute act, and food from Alligator Jack’s. During the next one on May 6, Josh Roberts & the Hinges will play Neil Young tunes while Charleston Caribbean Creole dishes up its unique fare.

Future cruises feature Gaslight Street playing Little Feat on June 10, 54 Bicycles playing Widespread Panic on July 1, Runaway Gin playing Phish on Aug. 5, BYOG playing The Band on Sept. 2, The Reckoning again on Oct. 7 and Soul Fish playing a Halloween ’80s tribute show on Oct. 28. Attendees must be age 21 or older.
