Grab a tacky sweater from Shep Rose and head to these festive parties around town

Tacky Sweaters are all the rage during the holidays in the Lowcountry.

During the holidays, you can assume “tacky” is code for “awesome.” Some may install giant, inflatable Santa figurines in their yards, or deck their houses in thousands of string lights.

But if you don’t have the time or space for all that, you can at least strut your spirit with a tacky holiday sweater.

What’s the difference between a tacky holiday sweater and a normal holiday sweater, you ask? Truth be told, there isn’t one. But for clarity’s sake, let’s define it this way: It’s a sweatshirt or knitted sweater, typically reminiscent of ‘80s fashion, decorated with holiday scenes, battery-powered lights and even music boxes and dancing Christmas trees.

If you’re grandmother never knitted you one when you were a teenager, you can find all sorts at local thrift shops or at Shep’s Ugly Christmas Sweaters stand in Northwoods Mall, a pop-up shop started by none other than Shep Rose of Bravo’s “Southern Charm” reality series. Once you have your yuletide threads picked out, sport them at these parties this weekend.
