I’m not sure if it’s the fact that summer has finally arrived or that everyone’s saving up as Fourth of July is next week, but our outdoor events calendar seems a bit slim this time around.
If you’re looking for something to do over the next few days that won’t break the bank, read on.
On Friday, Freshfields Village is again hosting its annual Music on the Green concert series.
From 6-9 p.m., enjoy live music by Palmetto Soul, a six-piece group that performs “an eclectic range of music from any era or genre; you name it, they play it. With soulful horns, pulsating vocals and unforgettable guitar licks, their performances pull wallflowers onto the dance floor.”
Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Guests are encouraged to bring a beach chair or blanket.
Freshfields Village is at the crossroads of Kiawah, Seabrook and Johns islands. Go to www.freshfieldsvillage.com for more.
This weekend’s Sippin’ Saturday event at Irvin-House Vineyards is the last one on the online calendar. So if you haven’t been out there yet, you should make a point to go.
From noon-4 p.m., enjoy live music by Livy and Friends and food from Lowcountry Creole as you sip on tastings from the Firefly distillery and Irvin-House winery.
Tastings are $6 for six samples of 24 flavors of Firefly Spirits and $5 for five wines. Patrons also will receive a complimentary glass during both tastings. Admission is free.
Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and spend an afternoon under the oaks. Pets are allowed but must be leashed. Coolers are not allowed.
Irvin-House Vineyards is at 6775 Bears Bluff Road on Wadmalaw Island. Call 559-6867 or go to www.charlestonwine.com.
On Tuesday, the Bohicket Marina Merchants’ Association will host the weekly Kick It at Bohicket event, a free family fun night featuring music, a jump castle, face painting and a variety of games and activities.
The event will be 6-8 p.m. (weather permitting) at Bohicket Marina and Market, 1880 Andell Bluff Blvd. on Seabrook Island. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Marina restaurants.
If you’re looking to keep the kids busy during the day Wednesday, a great $5 option is the Kids’ Fish Tournament sponsored by the Bohicket Marina Merchants’ Association.
Children ages 5-13 can fish from 9-10 a.m. or from 10-11 a.m. (weather permitting), with prizes awarded in age categories.
Yet another weekly event, this one at Night Heron Park on Kiawah Island, is the Kiawah Sundown Festival.
From 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesdays, enjoy a live band, Southern lawn games and an inflatable bounce house. Night Heron Grill will be open extended hours throughout the event.
Admission is free.
For more information, call 768-6253 or go to www.kiawahresort.com.
The film, another take on the “Snow White” tale, stars Lily Collins as Snow White, Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen and Armie Hammer (the upcoming Lone Ranger) as the Prince. The PG film follows the expected story line, so there are no surprises there.
What you’ll really want to be on the lookout for through the film is the costumes, as they were nominated for an Oscar for Best Achievement in Costume Design.
