Three-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Jill Scott is performing Tuesday at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center.

The critically acclaimed R&B artist recently caught national attention for her performance of Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit” live on A&E’s recent program, “Shining A Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America,” which was held in response to the Emanuel AME church shootings in Charleston.

Scott, a decorated musician, first emerged in the late 1990s through collaborations with hip-hop icons such as Will Smith and Common, as well as the funk-rock group The Roots. In 2000, her debut album, “Who is Jill Scott? Words & Sounds, Vol. 1” went double-platinum, setting a trend of success for the rest of her career.
