A free annual festival celebrating music and music-making is coming to more than 20 other U.S. cities, including Columbia.
Make Music Day, now in its ninth year, is celebrated on the first day of summer, June 21.
Anyone who wants to share their music can participate.
Performances from classical to punk rock are held in the streets, parks and on porches and plazas.
New York, Chicago, Boston, Nashville, Madison, Wisconsin, and Los Angeles have participated in the past.
This year is the first time South Carolina’s capital will participate. Other new cities this year include Seattle, San Diego, Pittsburgh, Portland, Oregon, Fort Wayne, and Indiana.
Yamaha will sponsor roving piano performances from the back of pickup trucks in New York, Chicago and Seattle.
The festival began in France in 1982; it has since spread to 120 countries.
