City to hold family-friendly New Year’s Eve party in Marion Square

The annual New Year’s Eve celebration in Marion Square is a festive occasion for the whole family.

If you have small kids, hitting the town on New Year’s Eve isn’t as feasible as it used to be. That doesn’t mean you have to forgo all the festivities and stay home.

The city of Charleston will hold its annual nonalcoholic celebration that’s appropriate for all ages.

There’s live music by local bands Diverse Groove, Ranky Tanky and Midnight City as well as performances by the Deninufay African Dancers and Drummers and the Missing Links break dance team.

For the kids, there’s a screening of “Minions” at 6 p.m., storytellers, face painting, jump castles, arts and crafts and more.

When: 4-10 p.m. Thursday

Where: Marion Square, Calhoun, Meeting and King streets
