Celebrate the month of beer a little early at the Sam Adams Oktoberfest this weekend

Revelers try their arms at the Sam Adams Oktoberfest’s stein hoisting competition.

While the German’s Oktoberfest is already an excuse to celebrate beer throughout the whole month of October in the United States, that still didn’t seem like enough time to organizers of the Sam Adams Oktoberfest.

So, the event is back at the Bus Shed a few weeks early this year. Indulge in all the frothy fun this weekend with authentic German food, interactive games, a variety of Sam Adams beer and even live polka music by The Hans-Schmidt Band.

There’s also a costume contest and a stein-holding contest, and those who can hold a traditional German Stein at a 90-degree angle the longest will have a shot at winning a $500 grand prize.

When: 7-11 p.m. Friday

Where: 375 Meeting St., Charleston

Price: $10 in advance or $20 day-of for general admission, which includes a commemorative mug and one ticket for a pint of beer. The Sam Adams VIP Biergarten tickets are $45 in advance and $60 day-of, which include eight beer-sampling tickets redeemable for five-ounce pours.
