Big Mean Sound Machine brings authentic Afro-funk to Pour House

Big Mean Sound Machine is a large Afro-funk band from upstate New York. (Provided).

If you love the music of Fela Kuti, often called the “James Brown of Africa,” then check out Big Mean Sound Machine at the Pour House on Wednesday.

The 13-piece band with horns, organs, synthesizers and heaps of percussion was formed in 2009 in Upstate New York, and now tours the country more than a third of the year. It’s Afro-funk that must be seen live to fully appreciate.

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Doors are at 8 p.m. and the show should start around 9 p.m. Visit www.charlestonpourhouse.com for more information.
