Alabama Shakes brings Grammy Award-winning act to Volvo Car Stadium this weekend

Brittany Howard, lead singer of Alabama Shakes, performed at Bonnaroo Festival last year. The band makes its way to the Volvo Car Stadium this weekend.

Alabama Shakes brings its soulful brand of blues-rock to the Lowcountry this weekend after taking home three Grammy Awards earlier this year.

The Athens, Alabama-based group’s wins included best alternative album for its sophomore effort, “Sound & Color,” as well as best rock performance and rock song for the single “Don’t Wanna Fight No More.” The honors were a first for the foursome, although they had been nominated for three Grammy Awards in 2013 for their debut record, “Boys & Girls.”

Still, the band’s strength goes far beyond the studio. Alabama Shakes’ lifeblood is the stage, where lead singer Brittany Howard mesmerizes with her Janis Joplin-meets-Aretha Franklin performance style while the band locks in tight, funky grooves.

The concert at the Volvo Car Stadium on Saturday with opening act Dylan LeBlanc is part of their global tour that also will stop at the Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and the Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Kentucky, this summer.
