Mint juleps or margaritas? Sombreros or flowery hats? How you celebrate this Saturday depends on your preference. This year, the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo coincide for a festive Saturday. The Run for the Roses happens at 6:46 and will be over in two minutes, but it will be Cinco de Mayo all day, so plan accordingly. We've included a roundup of some of the best fun to be had this Saturday. 

Dual Derby Day-Cinco de Mayo celebrations

The Alley

131 Columbus St. 

Kentucky music from the Bluestone Ramblers, frozen margaritas, mint juleps and horse-picking contests with prizes and giveaways, including a custom bike from Affordabike will be part of the dual celebration at this bowling alley with a super-sized screen and plenty of room for dancing. 

Bay Street Biergarten

549 E. Bay St. 

You don't have to choose at Bay Street Biergarten, where they'll offer nacho plates ($13), mint juleps ($7) and Modelos ($4). Dallas Baker and Friends will play bluegrass from 4-7 p.m. A big hat contest rewards the best with a $25 gift card. Pick the right horse that wins the Derby and they'll enter your name in a raffle to win a bicycle from New Belgium. 

Edmund's Oast

1081 Morrison Drive

The Bower outside will open at 3 p.m. for a combo party. Television screens will broadcast the horse race. Bartender Jayce McConnell will mix up mint juleps and margaritas while Chef Bob Cook promises tacos and other snacks. 

RiverDogs Trifecta of Fun

Support Make A Wish SC, watch a game and celebrate Cinco de Derby all at the same time. A $90 ticket includes access to the Clubhouse, an open bar of beer and wine, catering by Mercantile & Mash and a slew of giveaways from fishing charters to skydiving trips. 5-10 p.m. Tickets available at www.eventbrite.com

Morgan Creek Grill

Shem Creek, Mount Pleasant

A taco bar ($10 a plate) at noon kicks off the party at this Shem Creek restaurant. Wear your best hat and take advantage of the mint julep specials. Live music from Charles Cannon from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and the races will be on all televisions in the restaurant.

Burwell's Stonefire Grill

14 N. Market St. 

They'll be keeping the mint juleps flowing from 3-7 p.m. at both Burwell's and upstairs at new seafood restaurant Balao. They'll be organizing picks and giveaways with one prize being a $200 gift card to Burwell's.

Tavern and Table

100 Church St., Mount Pleasant

This Shem Creek bar and restaurant will have live bluegrass (4-8 p.m.), plenty of televisions and an $8 Woodford Reserve mint julep in honor of Derby Day. Ladies can compete in a derby hat contest for the chance to win $100 gift card plus a horse-picking contest with a giveaway.

Cinco de Mayo Fiestas

Workshop

1503 King St.

For its anniversary and Cinco de Mayo, Workshop is throwing a big party with live music from 1-4 p.m. plus a jump castle, face paintings, pinatas and other kids-oriented activities. Inside at the food stalls, you'll find food and drink specials including a $2 slice of margarita pizza at Slice Co., a $5.50 Donkey Punch at Spanglish and a $5 tamarind margarita at Sambar.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

7-11 p.m. Visitor Center Bus Shed

If you want to dance the night way, this is the event for you. Orquesta Mayor will perform along with DJ Luigi of Latin Groove. Holy City Salsa will perform along with ballroom dance of Charleston. Kids can take a swing at pinatas or hang with Charlie the RiverDog. Charleston Caribbean Creole, Pincho Taco and Damiano's Wood-Fired Pizza will be on hand with food.
