Celebrate New Year's in a family-friendly way

  • Updated
NYE in Marion Square

The family-friendly and non-alcoholic New Year's Event in Marion Square will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

For those looking for a family-friendly New Year’s Eve without all the boozing and bar-hopping, the city of Charleston’s Office of Cultural Affairs will present its annual New Year's Eve celebration in Marion Square on Saturday evening.

There will be karaoke for the kids (and perhaps some adults), along with face painting, jump castles, a photo booth and a “crazy” hat-making station. The live music lineup after dark will feature Americana/rockabilly and self-described “gutter country” band Whiskey Diablo and multi-genre party band New Galaxy.

After filling your night up with family-centered fun, you’ll still be able to make it home in plenty of time to cozy up on the couch to watch the official Times Square ball drop in New York City and then head to bed at 12:04 a.m.

WHEN: 4 p.m. Dec. 31

WHERE: Marion Square, 32 Meeting St., downtown Charleston

PRICE: Free
