Miss Charleston Teen Wendy Winn recently was presented the Duke of Edinburgh Award by Great Britain's Prince Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II.
Winn and a group of Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen contestants were presented the award for participating in a rigorous program that includes community service, physical activity, training in a skill and an "Adventurous Journey."
Some of the weekend activities in Greenville on May 27-30 included camping in the wilderness for two nights; an "Evening of Dreams" with Miss America and Prince Edward, for which they had to get ready in their tents and campsites; participation in the Greenville Scottish Games; and the award ceremony with Prince Edward.
That Friday night, Prince Edward spent about an hour with the girls at the camp talking with them and trying S'Mores for the first time.
Winn will compete June 30 for the title of Miss South Carolina Teen at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.
