CHARLESTON — Tall ships and racing yachts are among the attractions as the annual Charleston Harbor Fest gets under way on the South Carolina coast.
The festival, opening Thursday and continuing through the weekend, allows visitors to board the tall ships Spirit of South Carolina, Pride of Baltimore II, and Fritha, a tall ship from Fairhaven, Mass.
On Saturday, the festival features the start of the final leg of the Velux 5 Oceans yacht race. The skippers will cross the Atlantic back to La Rochelle, France where the race began last year.
Brad Van Liew of Charleston is the leader, having won all four previous legs.
