Charleston County Council today unanimously voted to delay by three months the ban on the use of plastic yard-debris bags.

The ban was to go into effect June 30. The new date will be Oct. 1.

The county banned the plastic bags from Bees Ferry Landfill and the Convenience Centers because they interfere with the goal of composting the yard waste.

A county press release said the delay will give council the opportunity to hear from municipalities and public service districts, as well as county staff, regarding the anticipated financial impact on governments and residents.
